PALMETTO DENTAL ASSOCIATION
PALMETTO PHARMACEUTICAL ASSOCIATION
PMDPA History
In 1896, a few physicians, practicing in the States of South Carolina, saw the necessity of an organization that would bring the members of the profession into a closer relationship that would create a better understanding and secure a more concerted action in solving the problems then confronting the organization. Through the efforts of Dr. C.C. Johnson of Aiken, then Columbia, Dr. R. Levy of Florence, Dr. L.A. Earle of Anderson, and Dr. A.C. McClennan of Charleston, the Palmetto Medical Association was organized and held its first meeting in 1896. The Association has met annually since, and each year has been marked with steady growth. The members are grateful for the success that has attended their efforts, enthusiasm, and interest. The Association has built steadily upon the foundation laid by these illustrious pioneers and today ranks with the best of its kind throughout the nation.
In 1936, the first clinic was held in connection with the annual meeting of the Association. It has been a boon to countless numbers, sick and afflicted, needing expert professional care. As a postgraduate seminar, the Association draws upon the physicians of this and other states throughout the nation to broaden their perspectives, by keeping abreast of the advances made in medicine, dentistry, and pharmacy. The Association has since been named the Palmetto Medical Dental Pharmaceutical Association.
